Choosing an NDIS support worker is a deeply personal decision. You're inviting someone into your life and home, and trusting them with your or your loved one's care. It’s completely natural to wonder: “How do I know they are qualified? What makes them the right person to provide support?”
At Liorn Support Services, we believe you have every right to ask these questions. Your peace of mind is paramount. That's why we want to be transparent about the rigorous standards and credentials every one of our support workers must meet before they join our team and, more importantly, before they meet you.
More Than a Job, It's a Calling
Before we even look at a single certificate, we look for the human qualities that can't be taught. A great support worker is someone who is naturally compassionate, patient, and reliable. They have a genuine desire to help others and a deep respect for the dignity and independence of every person they support. This is the foundation upon which all other credentials are built.
The Essential Checks: Your Safety is Our Priority
Your safety is non-negotiable. To ensure this, every support worker in Australia must undergo a series of mandatory checks. These aren't just boxes to tick; they are vital safeguards for the entire NDIS community.
-
NDIS Worker Screening Check: This is a comprehensive, national assessment that every person working in a risk-assessed role for an NDIS provider must pass. It checks a person's history, including criminal records and any workplace misconduct, to ensure they are safe and suitable to work with people with disability. We verify that every Liorn support worker holds a current, clear NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
-
Working with Children Check (WWCC): For support workers who work with participants under 18, this is another critical layer of protection. It is a mandatory requirement that we strictly enforce.
-
First Aid and CPR Certificates: Life is unpredictable, and being prepared is key. We ensure our support workers hold current certifications in First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009). This means that in the event of a medical incident, they have the skills to respond calmly and effectively until professional help arrives.
Qualifications and Training: Building Expertise
While the right personal qualities are the starting point, professional skills ensure high-quality support. Many of our support workers hold formal qualifications, such as:
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
- Certificate IV in Disability
- Certificate IV in Community Services
Beyond initial qualifications, we are committed to ongoing professional development. Our team receives regular training in crucial areas like manual handling, medication assistance, positive behaviour support, and person-centred care. This commitment means your support worker is not only qualified but is also continuously enhancing their skills to provide you with the best possible support tailored to your unique needs.
The Liorn Difference: Our Commitment to You
Meeting the industry standard is just our starting point. At Liorn Support Services, we go further to ensure we are matching you with the perfect support worker.
Our process includes:
- In-depth Interviews: We take the time to get to know each candidate, their values, and their motivations to ensure they align with our commitment to compassionate, respectful care.
- Thorough Reference Checks: We speak with previous employers to verify experience and character.
- Comprehensive Induction: Every new team member undergoes a detailed induction program covering the NDIS Code of Conduct and our own high standards of service.
We don’t just find a qualified worker; we find the right worker for you – someone you can connect with, trust, and build a positive relationship with.
